Sainsbury's car park

We were going Christmas shopping in Lassco's but traffic was bad. So I am waiting for Debbie Loftus in Sainsbury's car park on Wandsworth Road. I think this building used to be part of an ice store on Nine Elms Lane but is in the process of becoming a rotunda, the area is set for quite a facelift when the US embassy moves in.

Round the Circle Line

Took a group of students drawing on the Circle Line. I had planned rendezvous sessions at on platform snack bars. Rather disappointed that only one student stayed the course and yet strangely pleased that I could allow myself several hours of uninterrupted drawing.

Asleep on the circle line

This woman was asleep on the circle line, she had the look of someone trying to get some sleep rather than someone going anywhere.

Stockwell mouse

Recently had to work on a Sunday. There was heavy drizzle so used the Northern Line from Stockwell. Running down the escalator had to step over a dead mouse stuck in the last step.

Two men on the 319 to Clapham Junction

Two men sat together on the 319 from South Kensington Station to Clapham Junction. They didn't say a word until the man nearest the window got off outside Debenhams. "Have a good weekend" he said....they clearly knew each other.

Self-tattooed man on the northern line

I saw this man asleep as soon as I got on the train, he was wearing a white nylon tracksuit and had his hands folded over his bulky belly. He had several self inked tattoos including one that said "Dee" written at an odd angle down his thumb. I hesitated before taking out my sketchbook as he appeared to stir often and looked slightly dangerous. I overcame the possibility of him waking to find me staring intently at him by drawing into my sketchbook which had been carefully placed inside my handbag. I figured I could shut it in there if I needed to make a fast getaway.

Pearl and Dan in La Chapelle

A portrait of Pearl and Dan in La Chapelle, this is a surprisingly accurate record of how they spent that week.

Wednesday 3 October 2012

The couple were eating breakfast, both had scrambled eggs on toast. They were both dressed head to toe in taupe garments which matched their hair colour and were reading The Guardian. The only means with which to capture this pale moment was to use the lightest H pencil I had.

Monday 24 September 2012

Wonderful girl's weekend away in Sidmouth. After a very long cliff walk we came to rest at The Masons Arms Hotel in Branscombe where a satisfied customer was heard to compliment the barman on the food which she said had been so good "it tasted like breast milk" to which he replied "I've 'eard worse"

Pelting pebbles in Pembrokeshire

Sitting on a beach in Pembrokeshire in glorious sunshine is a rare but beautiful thing. A family had set up their own version of a coconut shy using the large smooth pebbles piled up on a rock shelf and were loudly pelting the piles with more pebbles. The son who was around 10 kept repeating "I seem to have an obsession with this."

Welsh pony

A week in Wales with dry weather..and warm sunshine. There is a certain time in the early evening when all the ponies have just been fed, they run out into the field and all face the same way.

Painted really quickly in the break between breakfast and lunch. Thinking about the menu for dinner.

Beach fog

Woke up to a thick sea fog. Left all four children reading or revising. The beach was empty save for the beach cleaner who drove up in his tractor, parked just next to me and came to view my sketch which he approved. He drove off and returned after half an hour, the fog was beginning to clear.

Eskimo

My cat is so hysterical, seconds after completing the last drawing in the sequence I bit into a crisp, the sound pierced his cat-dream and he jumped into the air with fur standing on end and bolted through the cat flap. Crisps are pure evil to a cat.

Sleeping Ocado driver

This Ocado driver was asleep on the 49 bus heading down the Kings Road. All the windows on the bus were steamed up. I had been to Kensington High Street.  I received a lot of email reminders from Ocado to book early to avoid disappointment over the Christmas rush. Seeing the total exhaustion of the sleeping driver I felt sorry for him.
